Trang Nguyen

Occupation: Oncology Clinical Trial Researcher and Creator of Bath Salt Babe Art
Heritage: Vietnamese
My Story: As the first child of immigrant parents, my parents were the stereotypical asian parents with lots of expectations. They put a lot of pressure on me to achieve great things such as becoming a doctor or anything in the medical field and always reminded me of how important family is. However, my true passion was art and design which was foreign and unheard of to them. I graduated with a Biochemistry degree from San Francisco State. When my grandma was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a year later, her death changed me. It is one of the saddest things to see the person you love deteriorate over time and there is nothing you can do. This shifted my outlook in life and I decided to work on clinical trials in oncology. I wanted to make sure that the patient and the patient's family felt heard and seen in this difficult time in their lives. And I knew that my grandmother would be proud of the achievements and the woman I am today.

Working in oncology and dealing with life is emotionally draining and stressful and this is when I turned to art. I started painting and creating digital illustrations for fun and I started a small art business by the name of Bath Salt Babe. I am most proud that I am able to honor my grandma through meaningful work as well as feed my soul through art. I am grateful to be able to do both things I am passionate about and love.
