Narges Kakalia
Occupation: Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, MintzHeritage: South Asian
My Story: I am a Pakistani American and have lived in the U.S. since I flew from Karachi to Oberlin, Ohio to go to college. One of the most rewarding experiences of my adult life has been my volunteer work with NYC-based nonprofit, Womankind. They were founded 40 years ago to provide refuge and recovery to Asian immigrant women survivors of domestic violence in NYC. Today, the organization continues to stay true to its AAPI roots in its offerings of culturally relevant and linguistically accessible counseling, emergency housing (shelters), legal services, youth mentoring, as well as wellness and support groups. Womankind's doors are open to all survivors of gender-based violence, regardless of their heritage. Womankind advocates and staff are an inspiration to me, and I love doing what I can to support their work.
Favorite Asian Snack Brands: I’m not much of a snacker but I do have two guilty pleasures – a Pakistani brand called Nimco (think salty, spicy, crunchy goodness!) and Pocky (I’m partial to strawberry!). Also Fly by Jing chili crisp!
Favorite Asian Fashion Brands: Aday. I’m also coveting a pair of Ally shoes, but haven’t yet taken the plunge.
Favorite Asian Beauty Brands:
Favorite Delicora Made for Jade Piece: Hao Jade Necklace
